Why Wordlark?
A “lark” can refer to a bird, of course. It can also describe someone who wakes up energized and enthused to do their work, just like the bird known for early morning songs.
Hi there!
Wordlark was founded by Katy Steinmetz (who is loathe but willing to refer to herself in the third person when writing an “About” section).
Katy started Wordlark after working for several years with Catchword, a leading naming agency where she still serves as an account and creative director.
Because Catchword is a big fish that caters to big fish, Katy saw an opportunity to do work on her own serving clients like non-profits, startups, and small businesses. Since launching, she’s had the opportunity to work with organizations ranging from non-profits in her town of Flagstaff, Arizona, to an Ecuador-based startup that makes customized decals for motorcycles.
Before working in naming, Katy served as the San Francisco Bureau Chief for TIME, where she worked for a decade. During that time, she penned several cover stories, was nominated for some awards, and fell deeply in love with writing and reporting on language.
